We Must Take the Time to Collect Information on Fibromyalgia.. It Is That Important! Having info on fibromyalgia, both current and accurate, is very important to aid us in our battle with this disease. I remember how isolated and alone I felt in first ten years or so of my chasing this illness starting in 1978. Back then there was no info on fibromyalgia. There wasn't a name for how I was feeling. No one could pin point for me what my symptoms meant. All I had to go on was speculation, process of elimination, and my own senses. I remember then, that I had to take the initiative, and not rely entirely on the medical profession. The doctors seemed only able to tell me what disease I did not have. The first time I heard of chronic fatigue syndrome, I knew I had to follow up! Bells went off every time I heard a description of this syndrome. Holy Merokee! Could it be? Could this be the name of my mystery illness? I immediately located a chronic fatigue syndrome support group, and started to attend their meetings whenever my schedule allowed. It was unbelievable! I was not alone! I received some comfort and peace of mind, just finding out there were other men and women sharing similar circumstances as I was. Eventually, over the course of years it was determined that my symptoms, though similar to chronic fatigue syndrome, were better described by the newly recognized term of fibromyalgia syndrome. I continued gathering information on fibromyalgia, the same way I had done earlier for CFS. Finding out that what other people and I had was real and had a name, leads to a point that I feel is extremely important. One should not isolate themselves when he or she finds out they have fibromyalgia. Even at the worst times one should strive to learn as much as they can about this illness. It is also important to make and have continuing contact with others that have fibromyalgia. This can be done in several ways. First, contact many of the fine fibromyalgia organizations, and join them as partners. Secondly, on the Internet one can get involved via fibromyalgia chats on the many available fibromyalgia chat rooms. Thirdly, if possible, join a fibromyalgia support group where one can share his or her experiences, both the let downs and victories. Once again, I can not stress enough how important it is to stay in contact with others who are living with the same problems. Instead of isolating ourselves, we can travel this road called fibromyalgia together. On the following web pages, I will share with you information on groups and other sources of information on fibromyalgia. Very valuable resources!
